Dim sum at Hong Kee restaurant Desa Aman Puri

December 27th, 2009 Becklee 4 comments

A new dim sum restaurant has opened recently at Desa Aman Puri. It is the Hong Kee restaurant and they are located at the previous Hoppy Restaurant.  Last week, my family went there for lunch together with Richard and Josephine. As you can see from the picture, the place is packed with people. They probably didn’t have enough change of table cloth so they had to put plastic sheets on top of the table cloth. We later discovered why this restaurant was so crowded…. the restaurant was giving a 20% discount on the food bill for a limited time.

For the time being the restaurant is only opened from 6.30 a.m. until 3 p.m. (not sure if it’s opened daily).  We ordered the following food. At first the dim sum dishes were all taken up at great speed and when the waiter said there was no more, Richard and Josephine ordered the wanton noodle.  Later, we found out that due to communication breakdown (waiters were foreigners), the dim sum had not been sold out but rather, we had to wait some time before more would be coming out.

The dim sum here is quite delicious and we’ll probably come here again in the near future.

Christmas Day dinner

December 26th, 2009 Becklee 4 comments

We had our usual Christmas Day dinner with the family and Melissa’s friends.

We had baby Natalie join us, too.  Isn’t she adorable?

While waiting for everyone to turn up, we had a cordial drink.

By 8 p.m. we started to dig in the food.  Thanks to the chef, Ah Loot!  There was egg salad.

The main dish of the evening was baked turkey. It was very well done by Ah Loot, everyone enjoyed eating it.

This mashed potato was made by me, tastes great too (self praise!).

Lastly, for dessert we had Ah Loot’s chocolate cake with ice cream topping.  We also had red bean soup courtesy of Steven & Vivian.  And Ah Loot’s special fried rice with mushrooms, chestnuts and dried prawns. Forgot to take pictures of these two because we were busy  eating.

These socks were knitted by me. Everyone took one home.

The evening ended with the gift exchange.  The presents were all under the tree.
